The image represents a young girl (Caylie) obsessed with the way she looks. She can't even be in nature without bringing her makeup and mirror and doing touch ups. I wanted to capture just the image of her face in the mirror to show how controlled she is by an image.

I really like the control aspect of the image and how obsessed a character can be with something so simple. I can see not only fetishistic gaze but always voyeuristic in how she can't stop looking at herself and is almost punishing herself for it. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI like how the in the mirror act as the object of her gaze instead on an actually person. It gives an interesting twist on the fetishistic gaze and how one person can use that gaze on themselves. Very well done shot.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an interesting take on the male gaze because the spectator can become just as fixated on her looks as she is herself. If the film continued to objectify the young girl it could reverse the role of the spectator by allowing her to overcome her dependence on her self image for happiness. On an unrelated note, Caylie is dating my friend Tyler and she's awesome.
